I spent $1k on a new dinnerware set from Food52 - it was beautiful at first! However, the bottom of the plates started chipping and becoming really sharp in the first couple of months. One bowl even broke in my hands because a chip from the bottom was so deep. I realized that it's because the bottom edge of the bowls and plates was very sharp to begin with, which made them very susceptible to chipping.
I reached out to customer service and they are denying me a full refund because it is past their 30 day return window. This dinnerware set is defective though - I didn't just change my mind. What if I had ordered a stand mixer or another electrical product that stopped working and was defective after 2 months - I would expect to be able to return that for a full refund. How are plates any different??
They ended up refunding about half of what I paid but now I'm stuck with defective plates that are too sharp for my kids to handle. These were supposed to last a lifetime!
The bottom line is that Food52 does not stand behind the quality of the products they sell and they do not care about their customers.
Do not buy anything expensive from them because if it is defective they will not help you out and they will not let you return it. It's risky to buy from them!
I ordered a bowl 3 different times and each time it arrived in absolutely crushed boxes. The bowls were of course broken into bits. I had to call and email to get replacements and despite my pleas, the packaging never improved and all bowls arrived broken. Poor communication and lack of interest in improvement.

Like everyone else has stated on here...HORRIBLE customer service . I placed an order 2.5 weeks ago for a dinnerware set that was supposed to ship a week ago and never got a shipping confirmation. After "looking into it" they told me the item was actually out of stock now and wouldn't ship for another month. I asked them if it was possible for me to change to a different color that was currently in stock so I wouldn't have to wait over a month to receive my order. They told me it was impossible and my only option was to cancel or wait. I asked if I could instead cancel my order and re-place it for another color but have them honor the discount I received on the original order, and they also told me this was also impossible as there wasn't any "similar discounts available to be applied at the time".
I'm sorry...but as customer service do you not have any control over offering temporary/one time use discount codes or just refunding me the difference?? His solution for my "inconvenience" was to give me a $10 site credit which is a JOKE since anybody can get a $10 credit simply for entering their email on the website.
Do not waste your time or your money on this company. They are literally riding off their social media success to sell 3rd party goods that you will probably never receive with literally the worst possible customer service I've ever encountered. If I could give them -5 stars, I would. Also, any company that doesn't offer a customer service phone number is a HUGE red flag because good luck to anyone trying to resolve an issue.

First, and most notably, there is no Contact number for customer service related problems. They earn most of the their money through online retail and yet, you can't contact anyone about their merchandise. I also, wrote to the customer department to start a return, and have never heard back from them regarding this matter. After multiple attempts, someone finally sent me a return slip, however it comes at the cost of the buyer. GIANT EYE ROLL! Embarrassing for a company based in NYC!
Do not trust that anything on the site is actually in stock. You will receive NO NOTICE your item is out of stock when you place the order, the next day or even days later when they ship something you did not order. When you contact them to point that out the mistake ONLY THEN they will let you know the item is no longer in stock. They seem to find this practice acceptable, I do not. I don't expect they will change anything but this is the reason I will never recommend them to anyone for anything. Item ordered was a time sensitive gift and now I'm left with nothing but the wrong thing and no way to get what I was promised when I trusted them with the order.

Item was opened and used (kitchen shears). Plastic wrap had clearly been opened before and the item fell out of the inner product box as I was opening it. That would have been OK, but the item itself was in poor condition! Handle was ragged and metal part was starting to rust. It was as if my uncle had mailed me his old shears. Completely weird. I thought I was ordering a new item.
I have not returned it yet - would like to, but if the process is too time consuming and costly, may just retire them to the tool corner....
They will charge you tax on their flat rate of shipping (in addition to tax on item) and if you are unsatisfied with your purchase, they charge you money on return shipping. So you end up paying more to them in the end on your return (e.g. you paid $194 + sales tax $17.02 + shipping $9 + tax on shipping $0.83 for a total of $220.85.
If you end up returning the item, they will refund $194 + $17.02 & charge you return shipping fee of $7.64 for total refund of $203.38 against your $220.85). So be vary about this fact when doing business with them.
Positively, item came in good condition and was as expected.
Website shows item in stock that are not in stock, and then customer service says they can't cancel the order because it's been sent to the manufacturer. Classic bait and switch scam. Definitely do not recommend doing business with this company.
I ordered 2 items. One was lost in transit and the other item that did arrive was very poor quality. I have contacted Food52 over a week ago and they have not responded to my inquiries about processing my return and/or getting anything resolved in regards to the item that has been lost in transit 9 days ago. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ordering from this company because in the off chance anything goes wrong they will never get back to you. Hoping I do not have to dispute this with my credit card company at this point.
The worst customer service ever. My gift got lost and there is no way to reach this company by phone, now ay to reach a human being and their email response time is terrible. Don't order from Food 52
After purchasing an item I TRIED to cancel the purchase 4 days before it was to be shipped. UNABLE to reach anyone to cancel, many attempts. After it was received, Food52 contacted to return it as not was not what I wanted. It took about a week before a response was received and a return shipping label was finally received. It was packaged and sent back for credit. FOOD52 CHARGED $9 FOR SHIPPING item TO ME AND CHARGED ME 14.90 TO SHIP THE ITEM BACK. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT I WOULD BE CHARGED FOR SHIPPING ITEM BACK. ALSO DISAPPOINTED THAT my ATTEMPT TO CANCEL ITEM BEFORE SHIPPING FAILED. I was UNABLE TO REACH THEM BY PHONE. DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR SERVICE ... AMAZON AND MOST OTHER INTERNET SALES SITES FAR BETTER TO DEAL WITH.
